Project timeline
We lifted the new bridge onto the site in late December 2024. We will demolish the old bridge in February 2025. Work on the supports, hangers and the deck will also start in February 2025. We plan to complete the project in mid-2025.
The Panmure Basin walkway will mostly stay open during the project, but access to the Watene Road walkway will be limited because it is being used as the main access route to build the new bridge.
There are a few reasons for this:
- having a full-time access point on Lagoon Drive is more dangerous for the public due to the high traffic in the area
- using the Lagoon Drive accessway disrupts traffic, so it will only be used for essential deliveries
- a controlled access point is being set up for the Watercare pump station because it is a critical service.
