About the path
Get active and explore the recently restored Whenua-roa / D'Oyly Reserve greenway that meanders through Stanmore Bay.
The flat path is popular for all forms of exercise whether you’re walking, running, cycling or taking the kids out for a scoot or pram ride.
The shared path starts at 41 D’Oyly Drive. There are plenty of alternative local access points from surrounding streets, including a longer connecting walkway from Logan Lane and Brookvale Park.
Explore the side paths which offer closer views of the restored stream, recently planted native trees, and smaller plants like kowharawhara which help to prevent soil erosion.
Previously the stream at Whenua-roa / D'Oyly Reserve was buried and piped beneath grass. A process known as stream daylighting opened up sections of the stream in 2019, returning the reserve back into wetland.
The recent stream restoration and native planting have seen an unprecedented return of birdlife to the greenway. Spot wading birds, tūī, korimako (bellbirds) and pīwakawaka (fantails). Native trees and plants like kōwhai and harakeke (flax) provide food and shelter for these much-loved birds.
Kids will love the playground with spider web climbing wall, monkey bars and spinning tops. The large grassy park area by the playground is a great spot to kick a ball around or relax in the sunshine.
The path ends at Brightside Road - from here it’s just a short stroll across the road to local shops, supermarket and cafes.
