About the path

This path forms a safe connection between Albany Village and the shared path along State Highway 1, providing an option for cyclists to create a big loop back via Unsworth Reserve and Rosedale Park.

Apart from a few road crossings, this route is well away from busy roads.

Start at Kell Park and make your way passed the old orchard to the crossing of the Dairy Flat Highway by Lucas Creek. Carefully cross the road and head down to the stream at the start of the Gills Reserve Path. The track is narrow here, but will soon open up.

Pass the lovely Lucas Creek Falls, cross Gills Road and stay on the right side of Lucas Creek to join the generous shared path through Hooton Reserve.

Hooton Reserve is a hive of activity, with something for the whole whānau to enjoy after your walk or ride.

Check out the skate park, basketball court, world-class BMX facility and outdoor exercise machines to complete an open-air workout.

The path is set back from busy Ōteha Valley Road, offering a pleasant walk or ride. The flat, wide path is a mix of gravel and paved surfaces, so it's suitable to use all year.

When you get close to the motorway you can either turn back around for a nice loop, or head up to the main road, navigate the lights and enter the 5km long shared path on the eastern side of SH1*, which connects with Unsworth Reserve and Rosedale Park.
