About the path
This scenic bridle path in Tōtara Park offers a tranquil country experience just minutes from urban Auckland.
The wide, gravel path is suitable for walking and jogging, as well as prams and bikes with sturdy tyres. Look out for horse riders!
Follow the shared path through Tōtara Park. The last section of the path (leading up to the playground) is reasonably steep - newer riders may need to dismount bikes.
Near the streambeds and wetlands you may see local birdlife including pūkeko, kingfisher (kōtare), mallard duck, pied shags (kāruhiruhi) and black shags (kawau).
Make a day of it and enjoy the activities on offer at Tōtara Park. In the 216 hectare park you'll find a basketball court, tennis courts, off-leash dog exercise area and scenic picnic areas. Public toilets are available.
There are two children's playgrounds to choose from. The award-winning adventure playground was designed to reflect a traditional kiwi backyard tree hut. Which will keep the kids amused for hours! The second playground with a giant green tunnel slide is located a short walk from the picnic area along the main bridle trail.
In summer months (open December to March), pop into the Tōtara Park Pool for a family swim. Splashing around in the outdoor lap/leisure pool and toddlers pool is a perfect way to cool off after your walk or ride.
