Consent, licensing and environmental monitoring support for Māori and iwi

Guidance for iwi and Māori who are applying for resource consents, building consents and licences or need support with environmental monitoring.

What this service does

This service is run by our Māori Outcomes Team.

The team provides support to hapū, iwi and Māori entities with regulatory processes including:

What the support includes

Support can include:

  • free advice before you apply for a consent
  • a single contact person for applications, including monitoring and follow ups
  • connecting council officers and applicants early in the process
  • specialist advice and explanation of the steps in the regulatory process.

Papakāinga and Māori housing developments

Contact the Māori Housing Unit at maorihousingunit@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz for papakāinga (ancestral homes) and Māori housing developments.

The Māori Housing Unit:

  • helps Māori organisations to develop housing on Māori and general land
  • provides land information packages
  • gives advice and support with funding opportunities.

Who this service is for

This service can support:

  • iwi and hapū (mana whenua) of Tāmaki Makaurau
  • marae
  • pākihi Māori (Māori business)
  • Mataawaka, ngā hāpori Māori (Māori communities) and whānau Māori (Māori families).

  • Your name.
  • The address of the site where you need consent, environmental monitoring or a license.
  • What you need help with, for example:
    • upgrades to a marae or papakāinga
    • applying for a subdivision
