If you know a group, organisation or individual doing great things in and for the community, you can nominate them for a Papakura Community Volunteer Award.

Applications are open until Monday 1 May 2023.

Nomination forms are also available at the board office and libraries.

​Eligibility criteria

Nominees can live within the Papakura Local Board area and contribute to developing the local community.

Those from outside the area must support initiatives that benefit communities within the board area.

The awards recognise contributions by individuals and groups continuously working for three years from 1 May 2020 to 1 May 2023.

Each recipient can receive a maximum of two awards. A maximum of five volunteers per organisation can be awarded.

Volunteer recognition awards evening

The awards ceremony will be held from 6pm to 9pm on Thursday, 8 June at Hawkins Theatre, 13 Ray Small Drive, Papakura.

​Award categories

Arts

A person or organisation that demonstrates commitment, long service, and makes a difference to the Papakura arts scene.

Sports

Individuals who work hard behind the scenes to ensure athletes, club members and the sports organisation they help can succeed on or off the field.

Community service (local heroes)

Individuals making a difference to the Papakura community, who always give a helping hand when needed.

Young person making a difference

Under 18-year-olds demonstrating community service or who have helped their peers.

Environment

Individuals or groups who aid the enhancement and sustainability of Papakura's natural environment through their voluntary work.

Culture

A person or organisation demonstrating leadership and commitment to preserving, showcasing and celebrating our culture and heritage.

COVID-19 special award

Individuals or groups who have made contributions through their voluntary work during the COVID-19 lockdown and recovery period in the Papakura area.

Disaster Response

This award is for those who made voluntary contributions in Papakura during flooding and Cyclone Gabrielle.

Long service award

Individuals who have made outstanding contributions for 20 years or more.
