Understanding Auckland's fresh water
Freshwater health depends on how we manage our streams, rivers, lakes, aquifers and springs, as well as the surrounding ecosystems living within these waters, and the sustainable use of the surrounding land.
Monitoring and reporting
We are undertaking environmental monitoring at approximately:
- 100 rivers
- 29 lakes
- 80 rainfall catchments
- 79 groundwater sites.
We use monitoring data to:
- develop baseline state reports that identify the current health of our fresh water
- understand the effects of current and potential practices on freshwater systems
- inform our decision-making process for policies
- measure how effective the changes that we make are in achieving targets and outcomes for freshwater health.
