Empowering communities

Our role in communities

The Community Empowerment Unit’s role is to broker, deliver, improve and fund community initiatives.

We provide funding, facilitate local networks, and connect people with resources and each other.

As well as working with the community, we work with all 21 local boards across Auckland to help them plan and deliver activities based on the needs and priorities of their communities.

We work with community groups to deliver projects, including:

  • supporting young people and rangatahi to be the best they can be
  • keeping communities safe and graffiti-free
  • working with communities to build engaging public spaces
  • responding to Māori aspirations
  • reducing homelessness.
