About the path
Enjoy a walk or run along the elevated cliff between Murrays Bay Beach Reserve and Rothesay Bay Beach Reserve, on Auckland's North Shore. This fantastic walk has sweeping harbour views at every turn, so don't forget your camera!
Start at Murrays Bay Beach Reserve. Parking is available here, along with a beachfront children's swing set. Check out the stunning wharf. There's plenty of seating to take in the panoramic views of the harbour and Rangitoto Island, and a ladder down to the water to enjoy a swim.
Follow the scenic walkway up the cliff at the northern end of the beach. The walk is signposted as the 'Gumdigger's Trail'.
The paved pathway is suitable for bringing the pram, just be prepared to carry it up and down a few steps.
At the end of the walkway, walk down Churchill Road and right onto Rothesay Bay Road. Continue walking until you reach Rothesay Bay.
Rothesay Bay Reserve has a great kids playground with a bridge, slides and a swing covered by a shade sail.
Pack your towel and a bite to eat - both Murrays Bay and Rothesay Bay are great summer swimming beaches and picnic spots.
