About the path
Take a stroll along beautiful Takapuna Beach.
Start at the northern end of the beach by the boat ramp. North of the boat ramp, kids will have fun spotting marine life in the volcanic rock pools.
Walking along Takapuna Beach, take in the amazing views towards Rangitoto and Motutapu Islands and the Hauraki Gulf. Admire the grand pōhutukawa trees that line the beachfront and look out for paddle boarders, kayakers and jet skis.
Takapuna is a great swimming beach - don't forget to pack your towel!
The beach walk is relatively flat. There are a few shallow estuaries which you'll need to walk through or leap over during high tide. The walk is suitable for pushchairs, particularly in the firmer wet sand.
A highlight for children is the new playground and water play area at The Strand. The popular beachfront playground features intertwining pipe slides wrapping around an impressive red and gold tower, basket swings, hammocks and a hamster wheel. There's also a wheelchair-accessible merry-go-round and trampoline. The playground is busy on weekends.
Public toilets at located at both ends of the beach.
Combine your beach walk with a picnic under the shady trees or visit one of the famous local cafes in Takapuna.
