About the path

A fantastic shared path in west Auckland exploring nature, vineyard history, art and children's playgrounds.

The path starts in Te Rangi Hiroa , the site of a vineyard and winery that was once ranked among the three largest in New Zealand. The reserve is named in commemoration of the spirit of the Croatian pioneers whose energy and expertise have helped to create the wine-making industry of New Zealand since 1896.

The adventure playground features creative play and climbing features. For adults and older children there's a full outdoor basketball court, as well as a BMX track. There are public toilets, plenty of shade, and a dedicated open green space area perfect for off-leash dog exercise.

When you've finished exploring Te Rangi Hiroa, link through the carpark and follow the accessway through to Glen Road. Turn left, then further down Glen Road you'll see the entry to Urlich Esplanade Reserve on your right. Less confident cyclists may want to dismount during this short section to avoid riding on the road.

The off-road path through Waimoko / Urlich Esplanade Reserve is flat and follows the course of Swanson Stream.
