About the path

This popular path is a great way to explore the best of what Barry Curtis Park has to offer all year round. Start your walk at the entrance on Stancombe Road, where you'll find a car park and public toilets. Bring your bike, roller skates, scooter or pram.

The path is fully paved and mostly flat, with a few small 'ups and downs'.

The path is suitable for all ages and abilities – if you're just getting started, give it a go at your own pace.

The path takes you on a scenic northern loop of the park, alongside wetlands and restored streams.

There are lots of fun things to do on the way that the whole family will enjoy. Kids will love the award-winning ecologically themed playground at the park entrance. The playground features unique sculpture artwork themed around native plant and birdlife, as well as a small viewing tower and separate toddler play area. Older kids can head to the nearby skatepark (on the corner of Chapel and Ormiston roads), which is one of the largest in New Zealand. There's a dedicated picnic area with covered facilities, and plenty of scenic spots around the park to take a break for lunch. If you're feeling energetic, shoot some hoops at the nearby basketball court or kick a ball around the sports fields.

Barry Curtis Park is the largest urban park to be developed in Auckland in the last 100 years. Once completed (expected to be in 2022), it will be larger than Auckland Domain. The park incorporates 55km of protected natural stream and gully areas, for birdlife and native fauna to flourish. There are more great paths you can explore around Barry Curtis Park but not all are paved, so be prepared to get your shoes muddy in winter.
