Wattle Bay loop

Description of Wattle Bay Loop

The Wattle Bay Loop, a part of the Waikōwhai Walkway, combines coastal bush with suburban strolls.

It features some of the best harbour views from the western end of Manukau Domain.

What you will see on this walk

You will encounter a range of native birds feeding in the bush valley.

There is a historic site on Wattle Bay (Taunahi), where archaeological remains show Māori settlement on the coast.

There is also a lovely picnic spot by the beach.

Suitability

Not suitable for mountain bikes, baby buggies or wheelchairs

Dog access

On-leash for most of the walkway; Off-leash on Manukau Domain

Keep safe on this walk

For your safety:

  • Walk along the foreshore only two hours before or after the daily low tides.
  • Wear good walking shoes.
  • Protect yourself from sun and rain.
  • Take plenty of drinking water.

Avoid being caught out by the Manukau Harbour tides. Plan your low tide sections so you can make it back to dry land in good time. Get to solid land, stay put, and call the Coastguard.

How to access Wattle Bay loop

Access points are Halsey Drive, Canberra Avenue and Sylvania Crescent.

There is a map of the loop on the Waikōwhai Walkway page.
