Cemeteries and Crematoria Bylaw 2014
This bylaw promotes the sustainable and safe use of council cemeteries and crematoria.
What the Cemeteries and Crematoria Bylaw does
This bylaw enables council to make rules in a separate Cemeteries and Crematoria Code of Practice to manage activities at council cemeteries and crematoria.
The code of practice contains rules about:
- burial (internment)
- cremation and ashes
- removing a body or remains (disinterment, exhumation)
- built structures like monuments, adornments, vaults and mausoleums
- Wāhi Tapu Māori areas
- ground maintenance
- record-keeping.
