How our plans work together

The Auckland Plan

The Auckland Plan is a 30-year plan to guide Auckland's future and deliver on specific topics, including:

• housing
• transport
• employment
• protecting the environment
• Māori wellbeing
• opportunities for all Aucklanders.

Aucklanders have contributed ideas, knowledge and expertise in the creation of the plan.

The scope of the Auckland Plan requires a collaborative approach with central government and many other stakeholders, including the private sector and the community at large.

Supporting plans

The following plans and strategies support the Auckland Plan and its vision.

The Unitary Plan

The Unitary Plan is the 'rulebook' that shapes the way Auckland grows.

Although the Unitary Plan replaces district and regional plans, The Hauraki Gulf Islands (HGI) District Plan remains in effect.

Budget plans

The 10-year budget (long-term plan)

The 10-year budget puts the Auckland Plan in motion and sets out our projects and budget for the next decade.

The annual budget (annual plan)

Every year, the council must adopt an annual budget (annual plan) for the following financial year. It must also identify variations from any budgets that have been allocated in the 10-year budget (long-term plan).

Local board plans

Local board plans are three-year plans that set out the aspirations and priorities for your community. Local boards review the development of their own plans every three years.

Annual local board agreements set out the funding available for projects in each local board area.

Topic- and place-based plans and strategies

These specific topic-based plans and place-based plans and strategies are designed to achieve the outcomes of the Auckland Plan. They respond to the Auckland Plan's strategic directions guiding Auckland’s future. They include plans and strategies required by law.
