Long-term Plan 2024-2034 decision-making process

​The mayor and councillors considered extensive advice in developing the Long-term Plan 2024-2034 (LTP).

We received a record amount of long-term plan public feedback during the consultation period – almost 28,000 submissions.

Mayoral Proposal

An initial Mayoral Proposal was released on 1 December 2023. It outlined the mayor’s vision and the mayor and councillors' priorities for the LTP.

​​Staff advice to support Mayoral Proposal

Advice from Auckland Council and council-controlled organisations supported the development of the Mayoral Proposal.

This advice is captured in the 'Staff Advice to support the Mayoral Proposal' document. This document provides details about the options presented for the mayor to consider in his proposal.

​Political consideration and decision making

In December 2023, the Governing Body discussed the Mayoral Proposal at budget committee workshops. During these workshops they decided on the topics for public consultation and developed a proposed long-term plan.

Public consultation

Public consultation is a process where the public is invited to provide feedback on specific issues or proposed policies.

Public consultation for the LTP ran from 28 February until 28 March 2024.

​Consultation feedback considered

Between April and May 2024, elected members of the Governing Body considered public feedback from the consultation for a final proposal for the long-term plan.

Governing Body approval

The Governing Body approved the proposed LTP 2024-2034 on 16 May 2024 at a budget committee meeting.

The Governing Body adopted the final LTP 2024-2034 on 27 June 2024. It takes effect from 1 July 2024, the first day of the new financial year.

The Long-term Plan 2024-2034 documents will be available in early July.
