He wāhi raraupori hōu ki te Huarahi 254 o Ponsonby
Civic space at 254 Ponsonby Road
What the project is about
We are transforming the old liquor store site at 254 Ponsonby Road into a multi-functional civic space for everyone to enjoy.
What the project includes
The project includes:
- development of the entire site
- a variety of civic spaces
- a covered space for events
- public toilet facilities
- a storeroom to help make the space lively and engaging
- representation of mana whenua history by special design elements
- safety improvements to O’Neill Street, which runs alongside 254 Ponsonby Road.
Key project outcomes
The new civic space site is a key location along Ponsonby Road.
It will:
- help address the lack of open space in the area
- support future growth within Ponsonby.
Sustainability and carbon reduction are important design considerations. Some elements will include an educational focus and others will be examples of carbon management best practice.
Project timelines
Deconstruction of the old store elements takes place in May-June 2024.
We will start construction on the new civic space in July 2024.
