Project timeline
This project is being completed in stages.
Prework
The prework contract was awarded in October 2021, at which time site clearance and earthworks began. This work finished in May 2022.
Stage 1a
We completed work for Stage 1 in August 2024.
This includes:
- grassed sports field platforms for informal play like football and cricket
- a baseball diamond (part of a baseball field)
- stage 1 of the car park (upper level)
- road construction on Joshua Carder Drive and Craig’s Way
- a footpath and cycleway
- street and car park lighting
- a toilet and changing rooms
- landscaping
- open space grass areas.
Some paths and landscaped areas of the park are now open.
The following facilities will remain out-of-use during the construction of Stage 1b:
- sports fields
- car park
- toilet and changing rooms.
Stage 1b
We did not have enough funds to complete everything planned for Stage 1b.
This was due to:
- delays caused by COVID-19
- an increase in building costs
- unexpected ground conditions including an underground spring.
Some of the sustainable features for the sports fields are also on hold.
These include:
- the underground water storage tanks
- a blue-green drainage network for field 1.
Work we have started in Stage 1b
In September 2024 we started work on:
- the front of the park along Squadron Drive, including paths and kerbing
- connection of water and power services
- sowing grass seed on sports fields 2 and 3
- refilling the stormwater pond with clay
- finishing sports field platforms 1, 4 and 5
- building more paths
- landscaping.
What happens next in Stage 1b
We expect to complete work for Stage 1b in May 2025. Sections of the park that we finish before this date will open earlier.
When we complete Stage 1b, two sports fields will be available for play bookings. The remaining three areas will be available to use as open park spaces.
We will complete more work on these spaces and build a baseball diamond when funds are available.
Stage 2
A starting date has not been set for stage 2.
It will include the design and construction of the:
- ecological restoration area
- playground spaces.
Stage 3
A starting date has not been set for stage 3.
It will include the design and construction of:
- hard courts
- a multi-use facility.
