Te mahi whakapaipai i te manga taupoki o te Huarahi o Paerata
Paerata Road culvert upgrade
We are upgrading the stormwater culvert on the southern end of Paerata Road by replacing it with a 12-metre-long bridge across Whangapouri Creek.
About this project
The upgraded culvert will help to future-proof the stormwater network by reducing:
- the frequency of flooding upstream
- the risk of the
culvert overflowing.
We will complete erosion protection and secure downstream slopes. This is part of wider stormwater upgrades in the area to reduce flooding and support future growth.
How the works will affect you
- We will have an approved traffic management plan in place during the works. This is to protect the health and safety of road users and pedestrians.
- We expect Paerata Road to remain open but it will affect traffic flow.
- We will need to remove traffic islands and median strips.
- We will reduce the width of traffic lanes, while maintaining two lanes.
- You will still be able to access commercial and residential properties, and businesses can stay open.
- You can still use the footpaths and we will clearly signpost any closures and diversions.
- Heavy vehicles and machinery with associated construction noise and vibrations will be in each work area. We will monitor these to make sure they stay within permitted noise limits.
- We will schedule heavy vehicle movements outside school drop-off and pick-up times when possible.
How long the works will last
The works started in April 2024 and we expect to complete it in spring 2025.
Works will generally occur Monday to Saturday, between 7.30am and 6.30pm.
