Pest-free Auckland
Keeping Auckland’s natural environment thriving is vital to the health and wellbeing of the region’s people, culture and economy.
What is Pest-free Auckland?
Pest-free Auckland is a conservation initiative aimed at helping our native species flourish free from introduced pest animals and plants, pathogens and marine pests.
This initiative supports activities within the Auckland region such as:
- site-led conservation activity on public and private land
- council and community-led conservation activity
- the restoration and connection of ecosystems (e.g. creating safe corridors between forests)
- the introduction and reintroduction of native species
- tools, resources and advice that support community conservation
- showcasing community action and celebrating success
- campaigns to raise awareness and motivate Aucklanders to play their part.
Pest-free Auckland is partly funded by the
Natural Environment Targeted Rate, which was introduced in July 2018.
It is guided by our
Regional Pest Management Plan to help eliminate threats to our native species.
What is Predator Free 2050?
The
Predator Free 2050 goal aims to progressively eradicate three of the most damaging introduced predators nationwide by 2050:
Alongside Pest-free Auckland, we support the national commitment for New Zealand to be predator-free by 2050.
To achieve Pest-free Auckland and Predator Free 2050, we need new tools and techniques along with the support of Aucklanders.
How you can help
