The map on this page shows where there are extra restrictions in place for freedom camping Puketāpapa under the Freedom Camping in Vehicles Bylaw 2022. This does not mean that freedom camping is allowed anywhere not shown.

In addition to the bylaw rules for the area in Puketāpapa shown below, you also cannot freedom camp:

  • at council reserves (parkland held under the Reserves Act), unless we set aside areas for this in future
  • in regional parks
  • in car parks where parking is reserved, and/or a fee is charged to park (such as council parking buildings).

Restrictions in this area

A maximum of 10 self-contained vehicles can stay overnight in the area designated for freedom camping.

If you want to stay overnight in this area, you must:

  • use a certified self-contained vehicle at all times
  • use one of the marked spaces in the designated parking area
  • stay a maximum of one night
  • vacate your parking space by 9am on the second day
  • stay a maximum of one night in a two-week consecutive period.
