About the zoo
Auckland Zoo was opened in December 1922 and is located on 40 acres of land on Motions Road, next to Western Springs Reserve and Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT). It is New Zealand's largest zoo and features more than 135 different
native and exotic animal species.
Auckland Zoo is part of Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, a council-controlled organisation run by Auckland Council.
The
Future Zoo is a $130 million ten-year development plan which will transform Auckland Zoo further into a modern zoo with exceptional animal habitats and extraordinary visitor experiences.

9.30am to 4.30pm every day except Christmas Day.

day passes and annual membership passes which can be bought online or at the gate.
Getting there
Auckland Zoo is located on Motions Road next to Western Springs Reserve and MOTAT. It is easily accessible by car via the North Western motorway.
Auckland Zoo has two large car parks providing off-street parking for cars, charter buses and tour coaches. It costs $2 per hour to park in the zoo car parks, with a maximum charge of $8. Parking charges apply from 9am to 5pm every day.
Accessible car parking is available in the car park closest to the main entrance for vehicles displaying a current mobility parking permit.
Visit
Auckland Transport for public transport options. The closest bus stop is stop 8124 on Great North Road.
