Hillsborough Cemetery Loop: Waikōwhai Walkway

Description of this walk

This walking track goes around Hillsborough Reserve and takes you up to the foreshore of Grannys Bay and Taylors Bay.

A wander through Hillsborough Cemetery and Taylors Bay shows our social history and settlement on the beach.

You will find landing remains at Grannys Bay Reserve and fossil crabs between White Bluff (Taylors Bay Road Reserve) and Grannys Bay.

There are picnic tables and kayak access at Taylors Bay Road Reserve.

You can also take your kids to the playgrounds at Taylors Bay and Fredrick Street.

Keep safe on this walk

For your safety:

  • Walk along the foreshore only two hours before or after the daily low tides.
  • Wear good walking shoes.
  • Protect yourself from sun and rain.
  • Take plenty of drinking water.

Avoid being caught out by the Manukau Harbour tides.

Plan your low tide sections so you can make it back to dry land in good time. Get to solid land, stay put, and call the Coastguard.
