This plan will guide long-term improvements to the park for years to come.

About the Harbourview-Orangihina Masterplan

The Harbourview-Orangihina Park Masterplan sets out:

  • the historical, cultural, environmental and recreational values of the park
  • the consultation process to create the masterplan
  • key design principles to guide development of the park
  • a spatial plan showing how the park can be improved over time.

What the Harbourview-Orangihina Masterplan will do

Harbourview-Orangihina Park Masterplan will guide long-term improvements to the park, including:

  • protecting and enhancing the park's environment
  • improvements to support recreational use
  • acknowledging the park’s cultural heritage and past.

Planned improvements

We want to:

  • enhance the ecological values of the park, including the significant bird habitat, planting and managing pests.
  • provide more walking and cycling tracks that access the wetland
  • create opportunities for mana whenua to express whakapapa, such as the story of Rangihina
  • encourage nature-themed play that incorporates artistic, sculptural or symbolic elements
  • improve the park as a recreation and event destination
  • provide park furniture made of natural and local materials
  • develop hides for bird watching.
