Notices of Requirement lodged in October 2023 in north Auckland
In October 2023, Waka Kotahi (New Zealand Transport Agency) and Auckland Transport lodged 13 Notices of Requirement with Auckland Council for route protection.
They involve 13 individual transport projects in Auckland’s north. They are located between Albany and Ōrewa, in the growth areas of:
- Dairy Flat
- Redvale
- Stillwater
- Silverdale
- Wainui East.
What a Notice of Requirement does
A Notice of Requirement protects specified areas of land from being used in a way that would prevent proposed public work.
Protecting these routes will enable:
- a new Rapid Transit Corridor
- new Rapid Transit Stations
- improvements to State Highway 1
- new connections
- upgrades to key existing routes.
Notices of Requirements (NoR) lodged for north Auckland transport projects
NoR 1: New Rapid Transit Corridor, including a cycleway and/or shared path: A new Rapid Transit Corridor between Albany Bus Station and Milldale, via Dairy Flat, including cycleway and/or shared path.
NoR 2: New Rapid Transit Station at Milldale: A new Rapid Transit Station in Milldale, including transport interchange facilities and walking and cycling facilities.
NoR 3: Transit Station at Pine Valley Road: A new Rapid Transit Station at Pine Valley Road, Dairy Flat, including transport interchange facilities, walking and cycling facilities and park and ride facilities.
NoR 4: State Highway 1 Improvements – Albany to Ōrewa and Alteration of Existing Designations 6751 State Highway 1 - Albany, 6759 State Highway 1 – Silverdale, 6760 State Highway 1 – Redvale to Silverdale, and 6761 State Highway 1 – Silverdale to Puhoi: An upgrade to SH1 between Albany and Ōrewa, including widening, new and upgraded interchanges at Ō Mahurangi Penlink (Redvale), Wilks Road and Silverdale, and a walking and cycling corridor.
NoR 5: New State Highway 1 Crossing at Dairy Stream: A new urban arterial corridor including active mode facilities, and SH1 motorway overbridge in the vicinity of Dairy Stream, between Top Road in Dairy Flat and East Coast Road in Stillwater.
NoR 6: New Connection between Milldale and Grand Drive, Ōrewa: A new urban arterial corridor with walking and cycling facilities between Wainui Road in Milldale and Grand Drive in Upper Ōrewa.
NoR 7: Upgrade to Pine Valley Road: An upgrade to Pine Valley Road in Dairy Flat to an urban arterial corridor with walking and cycling facilities between Argent Lane and the rural-urban boundary.
NoR 8: Upgrade to Dairy Flat Highway between Silverdale and Dairy Flat: An upgrade to Dairy Flat Highway to an urban arterial corridor with walking and cycling facilities between Silverdale Interchange and Durey Road in Dairy Flat.
NoR 9: Upgrade to Dairy Flat Highway between Dairy Flat and Albany: An upgrade to Dairy Flat Highway between Durey Road in Dairy Flat and Albany village, including walking and cycling facilities and safety improvements.
NoR 10: Upgrade to Wainui Road: An upgrade to Wainui Road to an urban arterial corridor with walking and cycling facilities, between Lysnar Road in Wainui, and the State Highway 1 northbound Wainui Road offramp.
NoR 11: New Connection between Dairy Flat Highway and Wilks Road: A new urban arterial corridor with walking and cycling facilities, between Dairy Flat Highway (at the intersection of Kahikatea Flat Road) and Wilks Road in Dairy Flat.
NoR 12: Upgrade and Extension to Bawden Road: An upgrade and extension to Bawden Road to an urban arterial corridor with walking and cycling facilities between Dairy Flat Highway and State Highway 1.
NoR 13: Upgrade to East Coast Road between Silverdale and Redvale: An upgrade to East Coast Road to an urban arterial corridor with walking and cycling facilities, between Hibiscus Coast Highway in Silverdale and the Ō Mahurangi Penlink (Redvale) Interchange.
