Eastview Reserve upgrade

We are upgrading Eastview Reserve in Glen Innes to provide better access to the reserve, improved water quality in the area and more play and exercise facilities.

About the reserve

Eastview Reserve is an under-used open space in Glen Innes and part of a network of reserves connected by the Omaru Creek. This network of reserves includes:

About the project

In 2018, Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board received feedback from the local community, residents and mana whenua about a proposed new design for the reserve.

The local board is now working to upgrade the reserve to provide better recreational spaces for the community. The upgrade will include:

  • a new nature-play playground for tamariki (children) to enjoy
  • a shared path and bridges to provide easy access for walkers, dog walkers, joggers and cyclists
  • outdoor fitness equipment.

The project also includes:

  • a new ‘greenway’ shared path linking Apirana Avenue and Line Road
  • improvements to existing paths
  • plans to manage vegetation to help open up the area
  • measures to improve safety at the reserve.

These improvements will provide easier connections between Eastway Reserve and:

  • Taniwha Reserve
  • Ara ki Uta ki Tai shared path from Glen Innes to Tāmaki
  • Tāmaki Path
  • other neighbourhoods around Glen Innes.

Improvements at Omaru Creek

Omaru Creek runs through Eastview Reserve. The local board has considered community concerns about the health of the creek and will make further improvements to it in 2025.

Improvements include riparian planting. This will help to:

  • secure the banks and prevent erosion
  • improve the quality of the water flowing into the Tāmaki Estuary
  • create feeding areas for birds.

Project timeline

Work to upgrade the reserve began on 11 November 2024. We expect to complete it by the end of June 2025.

The reserve will be closed to the public while the upgrade takes place.
