Te Kaupapa Whakapiki I Te Kounga Wai O Whitford
Whitford water quality improvement project
We are looking at how we can improve stormwater and wastewater infrastructure in Whitford. This will support growth in the area and improve water quality.
What the project is about
We are in phase one of the project which involves investigating and assessing technical options to improve and future-proof the infrastructure in our area.
We are engaging regularly with Whitford community members to ensure we receive timely feedback on proposed solutions and understand possible issues.
Project goals
We hope to:
- deliver Te Mana o Te Wai, Te Mauri o Te Wai
- service our current and future wastewater needs in Whitford Village and Whitford Manor
- make improvements to our stormwater and wastewater network
- address Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki and community concerns around liquid that leaches from the Pohutukawa Park closed landfill
- improve water quality at Tūranga Awa
- improve the environment for marine life, birds and people.
Project timeline
We are reviewing potential solutions and preparing a concept plan for feedback.
Subject to funding, we hope to commence physical works in 2024/25.
