​Rubbish bins in service

North Shore rubbish bins are blue with yellow lid and are 240 or 140 litres or green with red lid and are 240, 120 or 80 litres.

Rubbish bin tags

You should know

North Shore will stop using bin tags from March 2025. For more information, visit Bin tag use to end.

You must purchase a bin tag for each rubbish collection until March 2025.

The tag should be attached to the handle of the official council bin to ensure collection.

You do not need to buy tags for your recycling and food scraps bins because recycling collections are included in your property rates.

Some bins will display the capacity either on the top edge near the lid, or on a sticker on the side. Otherwise you can measure the width at the top of the bin, on the inside.

Rubbish bin charges

Rubbish collections will be funded through your property rates from March 2025. Between that time and the new rating year (1 July 2025), the cost to your rates for the partial year is based on the size of your rubbish bin.

If you order a new bin after March 2025, the cost is calculated on the size of the bin and the month it was ordered (pro-rata charge).

Rubbish bin exchange fees

You will need to pay a one-off administration fee of $40 to exchange your bin.

If you exchange your rubbish bin for a smaller size between July and December 2024, we will not charge the administration fee.

Recycle bins in service

Papakura recycling bins are green with a yellow lid and come in 360, 240 and 120 litre sizes.

Recycle bin dimensions

  • 360-litre bins are 1100mm high and 848mm wide.
  • 240-litre bins are 1060mm high and 730mm wide.
  • 120-litre bins are 930mm high and 545mm wide.

Food scraps bin in service

The food scraps service includes a 23-litre food scraps bin and a kitchen caddy.

​Food scraps bin charges

The charge for a new food scraps bin and collection service is pro-rated based on the time between when the bin is ordered and the end of the financial year on 30 June.

The full annual charge is added to property rates accounts from 1 July.
